Mexican journalist Fernando Vargas became the victim of an armed robbery while taking part in a sports program streamed online in Mexico.

The incident took place in the state of Morelos, south of Mexico City.

Vargas was participating remotely in the program Bla, bla, bla deportivo, on the Activo Deportes channel, when an armed man opened the door of his car and announced the robbery. The broadcast remained live during part of the incident, capturing the moment when the criminal demanded the vehicle keys, as well as his cellphone and wallet.

Host Ed Martínez watched the situation in shock while the journalist tried to remain calm. At one point, Vargas even asked the robber to stay calm before getting out of the car. The video signal was cut shortly afterward.

According to reports released after the incident, Vargas was not injured, but his car, cellphone, wallet, and other belongings were stolen. The host later stated on social media that the journalist was “very frightened,” but safe.

Fernando Vargas also serves as communications director for Mexico’s Liga Nacional de Basquetbol Profesional (LNBP). So far, there is no information regarding arrests connected to the case.
